Local Clean Teams

Setting up a Local Clean Team

These notes are for the help and guidance for those who wish to set up a Local Clean Team in their immediate neighbourhood.

1. Sandbach Clean Team is an umbrella organisation that will help and support the setting up of Clean Teams within Sandbach and the immediate area. Congleton Borough Council “Streetscape” will also have an important role in the help and support that can be provided.

2. From the start we considered it important that Sandbach Clean Team would be a true community based organisation meeting the identified wishes of the local residents. It would be run by and for the residents of Sandbach and area who are actively involved in the work of the Sandbach and Local Clean Team.

3. Sandbach and area includes the following town/parish councils:

Arclid, Betchton, Bradwall, Brereton, Church Lawton (with Congleton), Haslington (with Crewe and Nantwich), Hassall, Moston (with Middlewich), Odd Rode, Sandbach (which includes Elworth, Ettiley Heath, Sandbach Heath and Wheelock), Smallwood, Winterley (with Crewe and Nantwich).

4. Residents wishing to set up a Local Clean Team need to establish that there would be the support within the local community to become involved practically in the work involved. As a time commitment this would be from an hour or so each month upwards.

 5. The work involved would include:

  • Litter pick in accordance with the Sandbach Clean Team guidelines.
  • The organisation required to get the Local Clean Team up and running and undertaking litter picks.
  • Inform Congleton Borough Council Streetscape where action by the Borough is required to pick up bagged rubbish collected by Clean Team members.
  • Inform Congleton Borough Council Streetscape where action by the Borough is required to remove rubbish, fly tipping, dangerous items and materials.
  • Comply at all times with the guidelines and requirements of the Sandbach Clean Team to ensure safe methods of working.

6. Relevant areas include the following:

  • Pavements
    Grass verges
    Public footpaths
    Public recreational parks
    Public car parks
    Any other appropriate public areas.

7. The support that can be provided by Sandbach Clean Team will include:

  • Advice and guidance on establishing and running a Clean Team.
  • Health and Safety Guidelines.
  • Insurance cover (through Sandbach Partnership).
  • Providing (through Streetscape and other sources) equipment (litter pickers, hi-visibility vests, gloves, plastic bags etc.).
  • Helping with access to funding and sponsorship.
  • Publicity (press contacts, posters and handbills etc.).
  • Assistance with litter picks (especially initially).
  • On-going support as the Local Clean Teams develop.
