The latest monthly litter-pick was on Saturday 17th Feb. This was an early Spring Clean and Tidy Up in lieu of the Christmas Special Litter Pick last December, which had to be cancelled due to icy conditions underfoot. There was a great turn-out: the usual members monthly litter pick was supplemented by local Youth Organizations including representatives from the Fire Cadets, Police Cadets and members of the Scouting and Guiding movements. Local members of A Rocha (a network of environmental organizations with a Christian ethos) also took part. The event was kindly hosted by Sandbach Fire Station, whose premises were used as a base for the event. Police Community Support Officer Spike Elliott helped to liaise with the Youth Groups and after the liter collection, committee member Jenny Haines provided all volunteers with a welcome cup of hot chocolate and cake.
Sandbach Town Council Mayor Cllr. Martin Forster awarded the young volunteers signed certificates in recognition of their contribution of service to the community, and Martin gave an inspiring speech warmly thanking everyone for their participation in what was a very successful morning’s work, with over thirty bags of rubbish collected.
